Tunbridge Wells this Christmas

Of all the places to be this Christmas, Tunbridge Wells seems to have cracked it for fun and Christmas Cheer!

Shop until you drop!

Royal Victoria Place will be hosting a special Black Friday Shopping Event on Friday 27 November between 8am and 8pm with FREE parking after 4pm. There will be more FREE parking in Tunbridge Wells this festive season too! Car parking will be free in all Borough car parks to support late night shopping which kicks off from Thursday 17 December until Wednesday 23 December 2015. Shoppers will be able to make a night of it with FREE parking available after 4pm every weekday leading up to the big day.

Late night Shopping

On Thursday 17 December Tunbridge Wells High Street will be hosting a special ‘Late Night Christmas Shopping Evening’ where many shops will be open late up ‘till 9pm with special offers, discounts, refreshments and festive in-store activities. There will also be a raffle in aid of the local charity – Folly Wildlife Rescue Centre.

The festivities continue in November and December with Farmers Markets selling the freshest produce possible for the festive season from sprout stalks to sweet parsnips, chutneys to delicious apple juice and wine plus an array of festive food gifts. Or if you prefer something a little bit different, wrap up warm and head over to the bottom of the town and soak up the wintry atmosphere as you meander around the Christmas Market taking place on The Pantiles, the historical centre of Royal Tunbridge Wells.

Santa!

The first key date for your diary is Santa’s arrival at Royal Victoria Place on Thursday 19 November to officially open his ‘Festive Frozen Forest’ Grotto from 4.30pm followed by the Christmas Lights Switch On from 6pm with the pantomime cast of Cinderella from the Assembly Hall Theatre which opens Friday 11 December until Sunday 3 January ’16.  Santa will then be making children’s Christmas wishes come true in his ‘Festive Frozen Grotto’ every day from Fri 20 Nov until 4pm on Christmas Eve.

Ice-Skating!

The Royal Tunbridge Wells’ outdoor ice rink reopens on Friday 20 November ‘15 – Sunday 3 January ’16, offering young and old alike a fun winter activity in the heart of the town.

Set in the beautiful splendour of Calverley Grounds’ amphitheatre, the ice rink offers something for everyone, from general skating and mother and toddler sessions, to meeting Father Christmas himself this Christmas in his cosy, warm log cabin!

To mark the opening night of the ice rink, Silver Blades Gillingham will be showcasing a variety of their very own talent from group routines to solo figure skating performances from Jodie Russell (2015 competitor in the British solo junior ice dance championships) and Aaron Freeman ( currently training for next year’s British senior male championships).  Local samba band Bloco Fogo will also add colour and spectacle with their energetic sets of Samba drumming – something for everyone.

‘The ice rink is the perfect destination for some winter fun. Royal Tunbridge Wells is a great place to be this Christmas.’ Mayor of Tunbridge Wells, Councillor David Elliott

There are family tickets, concessions and our popular loyalty card means you can build up stamps and exchange for a free skate. Parent & Toddler sessions are every morning with two dedicated sessions for under 4s and their parents  – with main skating following every hour from 11am.

Bathed in twinkling festive lights, wooden chalets will be selling Christmas gifts and festive produce. There will be lots of mouth watering food to choose from, Basil on Ice with their specialty hot chocolate, soups and award-winning cakes and bakes.  Freshly made pizzas stone baked in a wood fired oven from Pizza Cucina and mouth watering gourmet sirloin steak burgers, pulled pork in a hickory BBQ sauce and homemade waffles from Apple & Cor!. Not forgetting the Fuggles Pop Up bar selling real ale, some Belgian classics and other seasonal drinks.

Advanced booking is recommended at peak times – Thursday and Friday evenings, school holidays and all day Saturday and Sunday. Motorised and non-motorised wheelchair users are welcome to enjoy the rink in their own wheelchair but must be accompanied by a competent skater. The cost of one hour’s skating including hire of boots will be from £7 for children and £9.50 for adults.

The ice rink will be open until Sunday 3 January 2016.
