Dal Nanno, Crawley Down | Restaurant Review
Tucked away on a route through the village of Crawley Down is a little Italian restaurant called Dal Nanno (By Grandfather). Opened in 2013, I have been hearing for ages how good it is so to celebrate our daughter finishing her A-Levels we thought we would give it a go.
The restaurant is cosy, and extremely popular so the tables are cheek by jowl and instead of being atmospheric it is fairly noisy. However saying that, it is tastefully decorated and oozes Italian charm.
There were seven people in our party dining, and we all chose a wide range from the menu.
The food was delicious and there wasn’t one complaint from any course. I chose calamari as my starter, and it was sooo good, rivalling even La Farola (they must have the same supplier). Others in the party had a range of garlic bread, salads and soup.
We had a mix of main courses ranging from pizzas and calzone made from scratch, pasta dishes, gnocchi, I ordered clams in spaghetti, it was a simple dish but absolutely sublime.
Not being an icecream lover I wrongly presumed that there wouldn’t be anything on an Italian dessert menu for me, however, there was plenty to choose from. I eventually chose the profiteroles. Three delicious huge profiteroles arrived, in a rich chocolate sauce, wowzers you can certainly tell the difference between homemade and shop bought choux pastry.
We had a bottle of delicious white wine which complimented the meal perfectly.
The service was friendly and efficient, apart from adding nuts to a dish when we had specifically asked for a nut free dish (this was quickly rectified). Overall it was reasonably priced for quality of the food.
We shall definitely be returning to Dal Nonno.
